How to Keep Your Flowers Fresh for Longer
Fresh flowers have a way of making a space feel brighter, calmer and more inviting. The good news is that a few simple habits can help your flowers last longer and continue looking beautiful throughout the week.
Start with a Clean Vase
Before arranging your flowers, wash your vase thoroughly with warm soapy water.
Bacteria is one of the biggest reasons flowers deteriorate quickly, so starting with a clean vase gives them the best chance of lasting longer.
Trim the Stems
Cut approximately 1–2cm from the bottom of each stem before placing them in water.
A fresh cut helps flowers absorb water more effectively and can significantly improve vase life.
Refresh the Water Regularly
Changing the water every two to three days helps keep bacteria levels low and allows flowers to continue drinking properly.
If the water starts looking cloudy, it's time for a refresh.
Keep Flowers Cool
Flowers generally last longer when kept away from direct sunlight, heaters and warm rooms.
A cooler area of the home will help extend the life of your bouquet.
Remove Older Blooms
As flowers naturally age, removing spent blooms allows the remaining flowers to continue looking their best.
This also keeps your arrangement looking fresh and tidy.
How Long Do Flowers Last?
Most seasonal flowers will last between 5 and 10 days when cared for properly, although some varieties can last even longer, especially during the cooler months.
At Posie Club, we focus on seasonal flowers and locally grown blooms wherever possible, helping ensure every bouquet arrives fresh and ready to be enjoyed.
