A Winter Weekend Guide to Mudgee
Winter in Mudgee feels slower in the best possible way. Crisp mornings, country air, long lunches and red wine by the fire make this one of our favourite times of year here.
The June long weekend is usually when the town feels especially alive. Visitors arrive for the wineries, food, markets and slower pace, and somehow everyone leaves wanting to come back again.
If you’re planning a winter weekend in Mudgee, here are a few favourite spots we always recommend.

Slow Winter Mornings
A good winter weekend always starts with coffee.
Gigi’s, Millbrie and Alby & Esthers are all favourites for breakfast and slower mornings before wandering through town. Coffee, pastries, jaffles and a cosy courtyard somehow feel even better during winter.
Old Wheels Grind has also quickly become one of the most talked about spots around Mudgee lately. Hot cinnamon doughnuts, coffee and a fire going amongst the vineyards on a cold morning feel very hard to beat.
It’s relaxed, simple and very Mudgee.
Long Lunches and Local Wine
Winter and long lunches go hand in hand around here.
Cellar by Gilbert’s is always high on the list for wine tasting during the cooler months. Warm interiors, beautiful local wine and the kind of place that turns one tasting into staying a little longer.
For lunch or dinner, The Barn at Blue Wren is another favourite. Relaxed, cosy and perfect after a day exploring town.
Wander Through the Main Street
One of the nicest things to do in Mudgee during winter is simply walking through town.
The main street is filled with beautiful local stores, cafés and little corners to duck into along the way. Cedar Cicada, Good Day Lifestyle Co and Edited & Co are all worth visiting for homewares, gifts, clothing and thoughtful finds.
Over the June long weekend, we’ll also have seasonal flowers available outside Cedar Cicada in our grab-and-go flower stand, perfect for picking up something beautiful while wandering through town. You can also order flowers online across the long weekend for local delivery around Mudgee.
Winter somehow makes the whole town feel a little slower and more inviting.
If you love plants and gardening, Mudgee Nursery is also worth a stop while you’re exploring town. Filled with seasonal plants, pots and greenery, it’s one of those places that’s easy to spend longer in than planned.

Markets and Local Finds
If your visit lines up with market weekend, Robinson Park is always worth a wander.
The local farmers and makers markets are filled with seasonal produce, flowers, baked goods and local makers. It’s one of the best ways to experience the community side of Mudgee and support small local businesses while you’re here.
Get Outside for a Walk
The Drip Walking Track is always worth the drive during winter.
Cooler weather makes the bushwalk even better this time of year, and the sandstone cliffs and quiet surroundings feel especially beautiful during the colder months.
It’s the perfect reset between all the eating, shopping and wine tasting.
Evening Drinks
As the evening rolls around, Roth’s Wine Bar is usually where things get a little livelier. Good wine, cocktails and a fun atmosphere if you feel like staying out a little longer after dinner.
Flowers for Your Winter Weekend
Winter flowers have a softness to them that feels especially fitting this time of year. Rich textures, deeper tones and longer-lasting blooms make winter one of our favourite seasons for flowers at Posie Club.
Many of the flowers used in our seasonal bouquets are grown right here in Mudgee on our micro flower farm, alongside carefully selected blooms sourced from Australian growers throughout the colder months.
If you’re visiting Mudgee for the June long weekend, sending flowers to someone local or simply wanting something beautiful in your accommodation while you’re here, winter is a pretty special time for flowers.
